Sargent World Sport Performance Dual Sport Seat for the KLR650 1991-2011

This is the enormously popular KLR650 Sargent Seat. I have yet to hear a single complaint. Sargent makes such a quality seat that this is the only brand of seat I sell for this bike. Why waste time with anything else?

Quality photos of the KLR650 Sargent Seat are hard to find online so, I've taken a few of my own to share with you below. I've included pictures of both the Low height version and the Standard height version. A common question between the two is 'does the Low version offer as much padding as the Standard version?' The obvious answer is 'no', but like I said, I have yet to get a single complaint from customers who have bought either version of the seat for their Kawasaki KLR. Sargent does such an amazing job with their proprietary Super Cell Atomic foam that the comfort of the Low seat is just fine without the additional padding. So, if you want to get your seat 2-inches lower to the ground, don't hesitate to try the Low version. -Buster

Öhlins Dual Sport Shock Absorber for BMW F800GS 2008-2011

Design and Functioning

Most of Öhlins suspensions are a high pressure monotube type. The fluid is put under gas pressure and the gas and the fluid are kept apart by a separating piston. The piston is usually fitted in an external reservoir, connected by a hose (Fig. 4) or fixed directly on top of the shock absorber (Fig 3). In some models everything is fitted inside the main shock absorber (Fig 2 ).

A few shock absorbers are of emulsion type, oil and gas mixed inside the shock absorber (Fig 1 ). Pressurisation of the fluid is made with nitrogen. The pressurisation prevents cavitation of the fluid and the shock absorbing action is therefore more even. The external reservoir also contributes to better cooling of the fluid, giving longer service life for the fluid as well as the components.

Öhlins shock absorbers with external rebound adjustment have an integrated temperature compensation. As the temperature increases and the
fluid flows more easily the flow is controlled accordingly. The shock absorbing effect is therefore independent of the temperature. The more advanced models permit individual adjustment of compression and rebound damping.

Öhlins shock absorbers provide the possibility of adjustment, making them adaptable to most vehicles, drivers and ranges of use. All of the shock absorbers with springs have adjustable preload of the spring action.

Fluid is forced through needle valves at a low rate of flow (Fig 6) and through a number of orifices in the piston (Fig 7) at a high rate of flow. The flow through these orifices is regulated by shims (thin steel washers) that at high pressure are deflected to open for the fluid. On most models the needle valve can be adjusted from the outside.

By altering the size of the shim-stack (Fig 8) (i.e. number, thickness, diameter) the characteristics of the damping action can be changed. This should only be done by an authorized Öhlins service workshop.

Compression damping
When movement of the motorcycle causes compression of the shock absorber, the fluid flows through the needle valve (combined compression and rebound valve) in the piston rod. If the velocity of the compression movement is high, i.e., in the case of rapid compression, this will not be sufficient and consequently the shims underneath the piston will open to allow for a greater rate of flow. The fluid that is displaced by the volume of the piston rod is forced into the external reservoir via a separate compression valve. The separating piston is displaced, thus increasing the gas pressure.

Rebound damping
When the spring forces the shock absorber to extend again, the fluid flows back through the needle valve. The fluid flowing into the chamber is forced by the pressure of the gas back into the shock absorber via a separate non-return valve. If the piston velocity is high, the shims on top of the piston will also open to allow the fluid to flow through.

Alright, I'll admit it... I'm a sucker for just about anything Travis Pastrana is involved in, whether it's showcasing an FMX trick that's never been done, winning trophies on dirt bikes and in rally cars, or just raising hell in his backyard. He is a legend in his own time, and I was happy to hear that he had signed with AGV in 2010. I've worn an AGV Ti-Tech helmet on my sportbike for many years now and it's been a great helmet around town and at the track at speeds over 150mph. Top athletes wear AGV on the pavement and off-road, so Travis and AGV is a match that makes a lot of sense to me.

In 2010, Davi Millsaps landed AGV their first dirt podium since 1997. Travis Pastrana follwed this up with a first place victory at the 2010 Rally USA opener, and with gold medals in the 2010 X-Games. 

The outer shell vaunts SSL layering made in Carbon, Kevlar and fibreglass in order to keep weight low while ensuring the maximum safety.

The design of the AGV AX-8 differs significantly from others in the market today thanks to the chin guard with its large steel grille that protects the highly assertive front air vent. This is a helmet that not only stands out, but is packed with innovative features.

The front air events, the vents on the visor edge and on the chin guard permit constant flow of fresh air inside the helmet. The rear extractors carry away all the moist warm air from inside the helmet through the channels in the EPS.

The internal padding in breathable Dry-lex® material has been provided with sanitizing treatment and is completely removable and washable, including the flap on the strap in order to ensure constantly perfect hygiene inside the helmet. The internal padding in the visor opening area has been studied for a perfect fit even when wearing motocross goggles.

In other helmets, the wearer’s chin protrudes from the helmet’s profile due to the chin guard’s reduced height. Despite the large aperture that can be seen from the shape of the outer grill, beneath it stands a sturdy structure in fibre that offers the best compromise between airflow capacity and mechanical strength.
